Problem Installing Reliance Netconnect LG LXU-800 USB Modem Hello there, My problem is that i just cant get my CDMA 1X LG LXU-800 USB modem to connect to the internet on OpenSuse 11.1 I have been checking numerous websites, blogs and forums to get it sorted. Have tried every thing from wvdial, pppconfig, in built Network Manager and what not.

But the results have been very very diasappointing. First of all i try to install according to their user manual and i get this root@:/bin# bash setup.sh FATAL: Error inserting LXU800Mdm (/lib/modules/2.6.27.25-0.1-default/kernel/drivers/usb/LXU800Mdm.ko): Invalid module format Kernel Modules are loaded. And then i get following results with the following commands root:# lsusb Bus 002 Device 018: ID 0eab:9357 Bus 002 Device 015: ID 045e:00cb Microsoft Corp. Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub root:# modprobe usbserial vendor=0xeab product=0x9357 FATAL: Module usbserial not found. Well after going through many forums and blogs i was really fed up as i was not able to install the modem on linux. But i finally got the solution of installing supported kernel and its working. First of all u have download the latest driver from the reliance netconnect on this web address(the drivers are generally provided in the cd u got with ur modem): The driver in my case is under the High speed 1x LXU, download the zip file and extract it.You can find ur appropriate driver by checking your modem name. Actually in my case of LG LXU modem the drivers are for Linux kernel image for version 2.6.27-7, so i installed this kernel. You can check the kenel version for which ur drivers are supported by browsing in relaince drivers folder: 'relaince/MACLINUXusbdriver/LINUX'(in my case of lxu800) and check the version on the folder(in my case it is LXU800V2.6.27-7-generic, it can be any of vgeneric ).

Now when u r done checking ur modem supported kernel version and downloading the relaince drivers, we r going to install the appropriate kernel (in my case kernel image 2.6.27-7-generic for LXU800 modem). For LG LXU MODEM users: Now for downloading and installing follow these steps:.for debain or ubuntu(download the deb file) - Step 1: Download the working kernel files: (a) linux-image for kernel - (b) linux-headers - for debian or ubuntu (c) linux-headersall - Step 2: Next, install the three downloaded DEB files with dpkg: sudo dpkg -i linux-.

    3. Reboot your computer. Put your current kernel on hold (otherwise it would be upgraded once again during your next 'aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade' routine): sudo aptitude hold linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic linux-headers-2.6.27-7-generic linux-headers-2.6.27-7.for other linux users dl the tar.gz file - (1). Download tar.gz this package of tar.gz comtains all the files of kernel image and headers. After downloading this package install it - (2).

Install - tar -xvf linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz cd linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic./configure make install install (3). Reboot your computer. Put your current kernel on hold (otherwise it would be upgraded once again during your next 'aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade' routine): sudo aptitude hold linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic linux-headers-2.6.27-7-generic linux-headers-2.6.27-7 For other Reliance Modem users(other than LG lxu 800) - Find the version of the kernel supported by relaince driver as explained previously. And find the kernel package from the package search option according to ur kernel-. linux-image. linux-headers.

linux -headersall download and install it. After installing the kernel supported by ur realiance drivers, now follow the steps given by the installtion guide in the reliacnce driver folder reliance/MACLINUXusbdriver/LINUX(for lxu800) I am including the guide if u don't have it(for LG LXU800 modem) - How to manually install LXU800 driver (Linux 2.6.27-7-generic version) 1. Open the console.

(ex gnome-terminal) 2. Change user account to super user account. devguru@localhost$ sudo -s Password: root@localhost#cd bin(in the reliance folder) 3.

Check Uninstalled State. root@localhost /usr/local/LGE/LXU800# lsmod grep LXU root@localhost /usr/local/LGE/LXU800# more /etc/rc.local #!/bin/sh # # This script will be executed.after. all the other init scripts.

    # You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't # want to do the full Sys V style init stuff. Exit 0 root@localhost #. Prepare Testing 1. Insert LXU800 modem in Linux usb port, and create the shortcut of modem equipment and serial port. root@localhost bin# ls /dev/.LXU. /dev/ttyLXU800Mdm0 root@localhost bin# ln -s /dev/ttyLXU800Mdm0 /dev/ttyACM0 root@localhost bin# ls -l /dev/.ACM. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2008-12-12 18:56 /dev/ttyACM0 - /dev/ttyLXU800Mdm0 root@localhost bin#.

Insert LXU800 modem in Linux usb port. Open “Xterm” window.

root@localhost# xterm 7. Type “wvdial” to connect to the internet in “Xterm” window.

root@localhost# wvdial 8. If you cannot see above image, retry above 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 steps. If you type “Ctrl-C” and push “Enter” button, you can exit from internet connection.

I should quickly make this blog entry before it slips out of my mind and I get stuck with the same problem yet again. I have faced this problem umpteen number of times and each time, I have had to rediscover the proverbial wheel.

Well here are the problem symptoms, you have your windows system (Win-7 64 bit in my case) and you have your Reliance NetConnect datacard. Now you want to use this datacard with your system for the first time. Happily in ignorant bliss, you insert the datacard in one of the USB ports. The datacard is detected as a USB mass storage device. From here on, the trap starts.

The datacard obliges and you get a popup where you see options like ‘Run AutoRun.exe’, ‘Open as a folder’ etc. If you were naive like me, you click ‘AutoRun.exe’. If you were a bit smarter, you open it as a folder and then click ‘AutoRun.exe’. The installer works on expected lines, asking you to accept the disclaimer etc. To keep you convinced.

After the installation completes, you get the ‘Reliance NetConnect’ icon. Happily you click the icon and voila, you get the unexpected ‘device not detected’. You visit the ‘settings’ tab and duly fill in your phone number and password expecting that it would fix the things. But when you click on ‘Connect’ button, you get the same error. You may try plugging/unplugging the datacard several times, installing/uninstalling the netconnect software and even restarting your computer but the wretched thing simply does not go away. But this time when this happened to me, I vowed to get to the bottom of the problem and hopefully fix it. Google came to my rescue (as it may have right now for you.) and after going through several solutions which partially resembled my problem, it dawned to me that the datacard device has to be detected as a modem and data interface by the OS, Unless that happens, your OS happily keeps thinking of it as a plain USB stick and it is never detected by the Reliance Netconnect software.

So how do you fix this? First, copy the setup software on the datacard to your computer so that you can use it BEFORE plugging in the datacard. You may also download the software from here: Now undo the mess already created. Unplug the datacard, uninstall the Reliance Netconnect software. Now go to your computer’s device manager and right-click on each entry in Universal Serial Bus controllers and choose “uninstall”. Now reboot your computer. DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR DATACARD YET.

Run the Reliance Netconnect installation. Once it completes, launch it and then only plug-in your datacard. This time in addition of it being detected as a USB device, it should be detected as a modem and data interface. You may see this happening when you plug in your datacard and the ‘Installing Device Driver’ notifier appears in the bottom right of the screen. If this does not happen, take a blind shot by running the AutoRun.exe that just popped up after datacard insertion. If success is still eluding you, keep on plugging in the datacard to other USB ports on your system till you succeed.

If you were lucky enough like me, you would get that blissful message of ‘Device Detected’ in your Netconnect application. From hereon, the path is all clear to click ‘Connect’ and surf the web. Special thanks to as it is from here that I got the spark of enlightenment. When i install my reliance netconnect + after completing the installing wizard when it starts instaling modem it shows the error “failed to install modem(5)” i applied ur technique but it didnt worked.then i tried in safe mode.now modem gets installed but now it shows the error “serial port failed to install” nd while showing status of drivers installation it shows wireless ethernet adaptor not installed.but when chck it in device manager these are ok and installed Comment by gourav — April 13, 2014 @.

Thanks for the procedure. It realy worked very welll. I was happy to see all my netconnect work good. I had to format my laptop fo this concern but the same issue was occured in 2 days. As you said I also wanted to find out the rrot cause for this type of failure.

I would like to support in in one more concern. I am facing issue in bluetooth of my HP450 laptop. Its not working properly. If i try to add any bluettoth device in my laptop, it does not detect any mobile or headphones. When i tried to add the laptop in my mobile it does not detect the laptop bluetooth. I want my laptop bluetooth working as in factory condition which gives me many option like sharing file, music, contact list syncronisation, hearing moiel songs through laptop, and much more.
